Volunteer Program
Metro Centers for Community Advocacy has a variety of volunteer opportunities and provides regularly scheduled training for volunteer staff. Volunteers can help change lives.
Volunteers are an important part of the work done at Metro Centers for Community Advocacy.
Volunteers provide the following important services, although this list doesn’t cover all of the services that volunteers can provide:
CRISIS LINE VOLUNTEERS
Crisis line volunteers are an integral and valuable part of our program. Volunteers are trained to provide emergency and emotional support to women, their families and friends and/or to provide callers with additional community resources/referrals.
*Must have successfully completed 40 hours of training and crisis line shadowing, which is offered through Metro.
CHILDREN’S SERVICES
Volunteers provide positive and constructive supervision while helping with homework, playing games, storytelling, and providing a caring ear. Afternoon programs, evening support groups and weekend activities will fit almost anyone’s schedule.
*Must be patient, love children, and have a strong desire to help children and have completed 40 hours of training, which is offered through Metro.
COURT ADVOCATES
Advocates provide emotional support and basic information to clients while they are obtaining a protective order or seeking criminal action against their batterers. Travel to the courtroom is required. Volunteers must have the ability to work in a court environment.
*Must have successfully completed 40 hours of training and shadowing, which is offered through Metro.
MEDICAL ADVOCATES
Advocates will provide emotional support to Sexual Assault victims at the Medical Center of Louisiana New Orleans(MCLNO). Volunteers will provide information and referrals regarding shelter, safety, counseling and crisis invention and support for loved ones present, and assist the SANE nurse if needed. Advocates must be tactful, compassionate and responsive to patient needs.
*Must have completed 40 hours of training by Metro and 3 hours of training by MCLNO.
All volunteers are required to sign a form of confidentially.
